solas turns one today! or 1-year-9-months! (or 1-year-8-months)
solas has been breathing air for a calendar year as of today.
and so today we're alive with gratitude for his birth and his health, and of course the feelings are just the best sort of overwhelming. he's doing great. has no idea it's his birthday. spending his time continuing his field work investigating what it means to be part of the tribe he was born into. today he learned stuff about wooden bowls, boxes that spit out paper and yelling back when birds call.
(oh and if you'd like to send a present, his favorite things to play with are That Thing In Your Hand That Lights Up, and the You're Going To Give Me A Bite Of That, Right? these are followed closely by The Inappropriate Chew Toy and of course Shoes)
...but let me say on his behalf, thank you so much for all your support in this wildly transformative year.
and let me also say, we're so glad You were born. we are so grateful for the hands that caught you and the people who nursed you and i pray that they were gentle and loving and please know in all the times that they fell short of love-filled tenderness that there was a mighty host of creatures cheering for you, praying that your path be imbued with all possible grace. we are celebrating the absolute miracle of birth today, and yours was exactly as ridiculously, improbably beautiful and complete as solas'. as everyone's.
happy birth days! happy birth daze! well done, all you mamas and papas out there!
(but especially oh my god you mamas, nice work)
with So Much Gratitude
for the passion that fuels life
for this cycle
and we know
to give thanks for birth
is to give thanks
for our rebirth
for our death
for the sunrise
is the sunset
depending on where you stand
you created us!
certainly in Your image
for we are creators
oh perfect Beloved
where do i begin
with thanks for beginnings
we give thanks for the ongoing health of baby solas
for the twinkle in his eyes
for the chortle in his laugh
for the exuberance in his crawl
and the poop in his pants
for all the incredible things that make an incredible thing
we give thanks for the healing of his mama rebecca
we give thanks for the restoration of her eyesight
we give thanks for the return of her physical health
we give thanks for the blossoming of her faith
we give thanks for the fertility of this crowd-sourced faith
that will heal her
that is healing her
that has healed her
we offer this prayer of joy and thanks and healing
in the name of jesus, ever-present
in the name of mary, mother of faith
in the name of mary, carrier of wisdom
in the name of brigid, hallowed midwife
